Postpartum Depression Lunch N Learn
Newport, AR (Feb. 9, 2010) - The birth of a baby can trigger a mountain of powerful emotions, from excitement and joy to fear and anxiety. But it can also result in something you might not expect – depression.
Many new moms experience the “baby blues” within the first couple of weeks after childbirth. With the blues, you may have trouble sleeping and feel moody, teary, and overwhelmed. You may have these feelings along with being happy about your baby. However, the “baby blues” usually go away within a couple of weeks. An estimated 10 percent of new moms experience a more extreme form of emotional distress known as “postpartum” which can last for months.
Postpartum depression is not a character flaw or a sign of weakness. Postpartum sometimes is simply part of giving birth or can be brought on by the changes in hormone levels brought on after childbirth.
If this sounds familiar, please make plans to join Dr. Chris Nwokeji and Dr. Amy Scott February 25 in the Harris Hospital community room at noon for a very informative Lunch n Learn on “Postpartum Depression.”
Seating is limited, please contact Sherry Bradley at (870) 512-3081 or Margaret Goodman at (870) 512-3030 for reservations.
